Erin Habes

The Fashion Technology Program at Buffalo State College is one of the fastest growing majors on campus. Erin Habes graduated from Buffalo State’s fashion program in 2003 and after several years of high-profile activity in New York City’s fashion industry, was asked to return as an adjunct faculty member in 2007. Upon joining the faculty, Habes was determined to integrate her fashion experierence into her classroom, while continuing to raise awareness of the program in the Community. Within her first year, she was given the challenge of producing an annual department senior fashion show. In order to elevate the in-house campus production to a higher level, Habes booked the world-renowned Albright Knox Art Gallery as its venue. In light of the unprecedented success of this inaugural event, she is now the proud director and producer of the Buffalo State College

The overwhelming success of this show spurred a collaboration between the Burchfield Penney Art Center and Buffalo State Fashion Program last April 2009 to createconnected the worlds of fashion and art.

In addition to giving Buffalo State’s talented students a creative platform to showcase their collections, all the proceeds from the show go towards the Fashion Technology Program’s Scholarship Fund, which helps subsidize students’ educational experiences in this climate of SUNY budget cuts and tuition hikes.

Erin Habes is also the creator and producer of the Elmwood Village Association’s Mass Appeal fashion show and fundraiser. Working with a not-for-profit organization has been a great way for her to connect with the Community; her goal with these amazing productions is to share, build, create, enrich, and help for the greater good of the city. This is something she is very proud to be a part of and has empowered her to think big and collaborate creatively.

Coming off the success of the Runway series and the buzz they have created, the fashion program is utilizing the 20,000 sq ft industrial space of the Pierce Arrow Building for Runway 3.0. This striking space has captured our fancies – its potential as a venue is extraordinary.
