Senior Spotlight: Elizabeth Wicka

The theme for Runway 10 is Remember Imagine, which encourages everyone to look at the past and remember where we started, so we are able to look towards the future and what we can achieve. Leading up to the show, we will be focusing in on each of our senior designers and learning about the road that lead them to where they are now. The next senior designer we will be spotlighting is Elizabeth Wicka.

Elizabeth has always had an obsession with clothing, especially garments that were different from what people would normally see. As she got older, she realized she wanted to become a part of it, and the best way to do that was to become a designer. To Liz, fashion is art, and humans are the canvases.

IMG_20170209_152120_718For Runway 10, Elizabeth’s collection is focused around decaying architecture, abandoned places, and old ideas. The collection is titled Destroy -> Restore, and it focuses on reflecting on the past and what we see wrong in the world, and using it to recreate and restore an ideal future for ourselves. The clothes are gender neutral, so they can be worn by either men or women. The designs are casual and modern, and involve various cutouts to represent destruction.

Liz’s collection is the epitome of Runway 10; capturing the theme perfectly. Remember Imagine looks to the past for inspiration for the future, which is exactly what Liz aims to do in her collection. Destroy -> Restore hopes to use the past as inspiration and motivation for a better future.

For Elizabeth, the biggest challenge when designing her collection was choosing her fabrics. For her pieces, Liz needed fabrics that worked well with the texture and colors she wanted. As she continues working up to the show, she anticipates her biggest challenge becoming placing and executing the various cutouts her garments require.
