Senior Spotlight: Elise Gardner

The theme for Runway 10 is Remember Imagine, which encourages everyone to look at the past and remember where we started, so we are able to look towards the future and what we can achieve. Leading up to the show, we will be focusing in on each of our senior designers and learning about the road that lead them to where they are now. The next senior designer we will be spotlighting is Elise Gardner.

Elise originally started out as a merchandising student. She decided to take a little break
from school to become a Cosmetologist, and then she came back to Buffalo State to finish her degree. Elise decided to change her major from merchandising to apparel and textie design, because she realized she was more drawn to the creative aspect of the field as opposed to the business side.

The biggest challenge Elise faced while designing this collection was making time for everything. The lining of the clothes took a lot of time to do, and balancing work and classes also proved to be a challenge. Being a textile major, Elise is used to her classwork mostly being on the computer. This semester Image uploaded from iOS (2)was the first time that Elise made garments for actual people to wear. In the past, all her garments were only worn by mannequins or herself. However, she found the whole process of going through model fittings to be very exciting and nerve-racking, because her designs were on real people.
