Buffalo State College’s Runway 4.0 Senior Designer, Tony Bruce, a Minneapolis Native who graduated from U of R in film studies. Tony has been spending the last few weeks working hard on his collection for the show. Check out what Tony had to say!
SV: Tell me how your collection is going for the show!
TB: Everything is coming together! I have basically everything put together…now it’s just all about finishing and adding minor details. I am also making my own accessories!
SV: Fashion is obviously a huge part of your life, tell me a little bit about what fashion means to you…
TB: Fashion is a way to express yourself. It should be fun, not stressful. It is really fufilling and exciting for me and I can’t really see myself doing anything else. At the end of the day I love creating something out of nothing!
SV: The theme of the show is “Diversity Mash”, how does diversity play a part in your life?
TB: It makes me appreciate different view points from different ways of life and learning to respect them.
SV: How do you think Runway 4.0 will differ from the previous fashion shows ?
TB: It has definitley become more popular. The Fashion Program has been so dedicated and has put forth so much hard work and energy into this. I know it will be fabulous as always! It is also amazing that we have M&T Bank as our Presenting Sponsor, and Macy’s, New Era and Eastman as our Gold Sponsors. We are so blessed to have people willing to support and create a platform for young designers like myself.
SV: Buffalo’s Fashion is certainly growing. How do we differ from other places like NYC and L.A.?
TB: There are so many unique shops on elmwood that have a great vibe. Buffalo’s fashion is definitley emerging and embracing young designers like myself, it’s a great starting point!
SV: Who are some of your inspirations?
TB: Christopher Kane, Gianni Versace, Alexander McQueen.
