Runway 3.0 Nancy Belfer Senior Collection Award Winner

The winner of the $1000 Nancy Belfer Senior Collection Award for Runway 3.0 is Tess Hinterbichler. Congratulations Tess on an outstanding collection!

Tess is an FTT Apparel Design Major whose interests lie within fashion illustration, computer aided design programs and garment construction.

According to Tess, she:

“was inspired by the architecture of the Musée du Louvre in Paris, which is both modern and traditional. Functionality and innovation are two key terms that come to my mind when dealing with technology. The function or purpose of my technology is transformation. I incorporated wire into certain seam-lines of my garments so that they can be morphed into a different look. That is what technology is meant for, to make life a little bit easier, a little more fun and a little more carefree!

Runway 3.0 Evening Show @ 9PM

I did not think it would be possible for the evening show to outdo the afternoon show but the sold out evening show was absolutely enchanting. The ambiance of the historical Pierce arrow building was a perfect setting to the Technology: Obsession Progression Runway 3.0 theme. The students from Erin Habes fashion show production class handled everything very professionally and I received multiple compliments about the production staff. All of the student designers shined as well as the models. I received many positive comments about the models and the quality and originality of the students designs.
Stephen Burgeson’s  hospitality students did an excellent job on the pre-event VIP reception as well as the post event dessert reception. Jozef Bajus and Carol Townsend’s student exhibit reflected a totally distinctive and eclectic exhibition of fiber accessories, wearable art and the Cinderella Show Project. Everyone loved it!

Overall this was an exceptionally positive experience. David Brinson’s senior project students [profiles above] developed some really creative and unique collections.  Erin Habes did a marvelous job with the production class this year. The Runway 3.0 production was especially big challenge this year because it represented the very first totally stand-alone independently funded production by the Fashion Program.

A special thank you to all community and campus supporters, FTT Advisory Board members, students and volunteers.  Without your support Runway 3.0 would not have been possible.

Below is a gallery of the VIP reception before the event and the Fiber Accessories and Wearable Art and Cinderella Project installations. All other evening raw photos are on this FLICKR link.

Runway 3.0 Fiber Design Accessories & Wearable Art

A very special new element has been added to Runway 3.0 from the  Fiber Design program in the Design Department at Buffalo State College. In addition to a new Jozef Bajus student created mini-exhibit titled,  “Fiber Design: Fashion Accessory Project,” the Fiber Program will have a special wearable art section in the Runway event.

A recent post titled Runway 3.0 Wearable Art Design Award details the new award sponsored by Elaine Polvinen and the judge for the award, Ginny O’Brien.

Professor Bajus details the fiber design student participation in Runway 3.0 below:

Fiber/Design Program display: while exploring the traditional and non traditional forms of the fan and telling a story connected with our past, family or friends were essential during the creative process.

Surprising combinations of different materials – paper, wood, cloth, threads, wire, plastic and everyday material, and exploring ranges of techniques such as felting, embroidery, shibori, papermaking and mixed media was an exciting part of the creative process.

“Wearable Art” – garments and accessories at the show are specifically related to the Runway3.0 Technology: Obsession Progression theme.  Our main focus was on concepts, aesthetics, searching for final form and presentation of the artworks. Part of the wearable art collection will be also included in a special category of the fashion show. The process trail of the fan and the wearable art assignment was documented in a journals which contains research, inspirations, concepts, sketches, and photo images of the final artworks.

Limited Edition Runway 3.0 Tote Bags

We have worked to create a very limited edition small run of Runway 3.0 tote bags. The tote bags are of 100% 10 oz natural cotton canvas, 18″W x 19″H with 4.5″ Bottom Gusset, Handles: 25″L. They are a nice sturdy bag and they look great with the Runway 3.0 logo on them.

We only had time to make a very small number of them so if you like them snap them up quickly for a mere $20.00 donation per bag. All proceeds from the sale will go into the FTT students scholarship fund.

TECHNOLOGY: PROGRESSION/OBSESSION

The theme of Runway 3.0 is Technology: progression/obsession. In
the words of sociologist Beppe Di Donna: “Our society has
become more difficult to stimulate and therefore everything is
resorting to extremes to be noticed, experimented, and
selected.” Runway’s participating designers will be applying this
concept to the creation of a collection that combines design,
technology, and culture. Their designs will play with the ideas of
extremes in fashion, the role of technology in our culture, and the
revolutionary speed of progress in both fashion and the world
around us.
